Instinct is working with an established international professional membership body within the education sector, who are looking to appoint an experienced Senior Learning Designer on an initial 12-month fixed-term contract, with the potential to become permanent.
This is an opportunity to play a key role in developing high-quality digital and blended learning for senior academic and professional audiences, with a particular focus on intellectually challenging content, learner engagement and educational excellence.
The successful candidate will combine strong pedagogical knowledge with a commercial approach to learning design, creating engaging and academically rigorous learning experiences for senior professionals.
The Role
The position will focus predominantly on early-stage learning design, with some hands-on content development. You’ll be responsible for shaping the structure, methodology and learner journey of complex educational programmes, ensuring content is appropriately challenging for senior-level audiences.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing high-level digital and blended learning programmes for senior academic and professional audiences.
- Applying established learning theories and pedagogical principles, including Bloom’s Taxonomy, to create intellectually engaging learning experiences.
- Developing clear learning objectives, competency frameworks and robust assessment strategies.
- Working with complex, technical and academic subject matter to produce accessible, engaging and appropriately challenging learning materials.
- Enhancing the learner journey and overall user experience, ensuring learning is structured, purposeful and effective.
- Collaborating with subject matter experts and stakeholders to translate specialist knowledge into high-quality learning experiences.
- Supporting content development using tools such as Articulate Rise, alongside other digital learning technologies where appropriate.
We’re looking for an experienced Learning Designer who can confidently articulate their design methodology and demonstrate how they approach complex learning challenges.
Essential experience:
- Strong experience in learning design, particularly the early stages of programme development, learning architecture and assessment design.
- Experience designing learning for senior professional, academic, leadership or executive-level audiences.
- Excellent understanding of adult learning theory, instructional design methodologies and pedagogical principles.
- Experience developing online and blended learning within both higher education and commercial or professional learning environments.
- Exceptional written English, with strong analytical, proofreading and content development skills.
- Ability to work with complex subject matter and create intellectually challenging, engaging learning experiences.
- A commercially minded, consultative approach, with the confidence to challenge stakeholders and recommend effective learning solutions.
- An understanding of how AI can support research and learning design without replacing sound educational judgement.
Desirable experience:
- Experience within professional membership bodies, chartered institutes, executive education or healthcare education.
- Strong understanding of learner experience (LX), user experience (UX) and learner journeys.
- Experience using Articulate Rise or similar digital learning authoring tools.
- Exposure to Moodle, multimedia development, video editing or graphic design.
The organisation is looking for someone to join as soon as possible and offers the opportunity to influence the design and development of high-quality professional education programmes.
If you’re an experienced Learning Designer who enjoys working with complex academic content and creating meaningful learning experiences for senior audiences, we’d be keen to hear from you.
