Learning Designer (Higher Education – Online Postgraduate STEM)

We are partnering with a well-established UK public higher education institution to appoint an experienced Learning Designer for a short-term assignment supporting the enhancement of online postgraduate STEM provision.

This is a remote contract opportunity focused on strengthening academic quality, learning design coherence and online delivery standards within postgraduate programmes delivered via Canvas.

Our client is seeking support across one or both of the following areas:

• Learning Designer (Higher Education & Online Specialist)
• Learning Designer with strong Applied Data Science / STEM subject expertise (Mathematics and Computer Science)

The assignment will focus on improving the structure, clarity and pedagogical robustness of online postgraduate modules.

Key Responsibilities

• Storyboard and shape postgraduate modules into clear, engaging learning journeys
• Audit existing content and assess alignment with defined learning outcomes
• Provide structured pedagogic recommendations to enhance quality and consistency
• Work closely with academic subject matter experts (SMEs), facilitating and constructively challenging where appropriate
• Support SMEs in developing clear specifications for media and interactive resources
• Advise on online learning best practice (Canvas), without responsibility for technical build or development

Essential Experience & Skills

• Proven Learning Design experience within UK Higher Education
• Experience supporting fully online postgraduate programmes
• Strong storyboarding and curriculum design capability
• Experience auditing and mapping content to learning outcomes
• Confidence working with and advising academic stakeholders
• Ability to provide clear, evidence-based pedagogic guidance

For the STEM-focused brief:

• Strong Applied Data Science, Mathematics and/or Computer Science subject knowledge
