Instinct are proud to be sponsoring Manchester based Great Britain inline Hockey star Phil Hamer in his and GB’s quest for success. Phil, who divides his Hockey season between the Manchester Warriors and the CPLV Dismeva from Valladolid in Spain, is one of GB’s stars and will be integral in driving the team to glory in this year’s World Championships.
For those of you that are unfamiliar, Inline hockey is very similar to ice hockey played with two forward, two defensemen and one goaltender on the rink at the same time. Each team has 3 lines of players who change every minute or so. The rules are pretty much identical to ice hockey but it is played with a lower level of contact.
There are two championships taking place this year with the first in the city of Pardubice, Czech Republic in June, where the British team will be competing for the IIHF men’s inline world championships. The two group games are against Australia and Austria who are likely to be the toughest opponents and potential match up for group stage final.
The second championship in July is to be hosted in Roccaraso, Italy just outside of Rome, where the team will compete for the FIRS men’s inline world championships. 18 countries will compete in this tournament and GB are hoping for a top 6 finish which has never been achieved previously, but with a very good team this year their hopes are high!
Both tournaments will be filled with professional ice hockey players from all over the globe including some from the NHL league in North America.
