End of Season Review

So, here we are at the end of a record-breaking season in Premier League history, with the imperious Manchester City finishing the season as Champions.

They ended up with the highest number of points, goals and wins in Premier League history; proving that Pep Guardiola’s single-minded philosophy can triumph in England’s ‘Can he do it on a cold Tuesday night in Stoke?’ culture…

Stoke were relegated from the league, along with other ‘established’ Premier League teams such as West Brom & Swansea. Elsewhere, there were good seasons for United, Spurs & Liverpool who have qualified for the Champions League, whereas Arsenal & Chelsea have had to settle for the bright lights of Thursday nights in the Europa League next season.

Individually, there have been some outstanding seasons for a few players, summarised in the Fantasy Football team of the season below;

Goalkeeper

De Gea (United) – 172 pts

Defenders

Azpilicueta (Chelsea) – 175 pts

Alonso (Chelsea) – 165 pts

Otamendi (City) – 156 pts

Valencia (United) – 146 pts

Midfielders

Salah (Liverpool) – 303 pts

Sterling (City) – 229 pts

De Bruyne (City) – 209 pts

Forwards

Kane (Spurs) – 217 pts

Vardy (Leicester) – 183 pts

Firmino (Liverpool) – 181 pts

In the ‘Managers Trust Instinct’ league, the competition was fierce until the end but congratulations to Andie Coupland who finished top of the table with 2376 points. Huge congratulations from the Instinct team to Andie who was consistently featuring at the top of weekly leader boards and who also finished just outside of the top 1000 players in the world – a true fantasy football pro! Andie will shortly be receiving a special end of season prize – once again, well done!

For the rest of us, we have the upcoming drama of an FA Cup Final, Champions League Final (Hala Madrid!) & another Gareth Southgate related penalty fiasco in the World Cup to look forward to.

Enjoy your football-filled Summer and we’ll see you next season!
